Learn to Swim

Learning to swim is an important life skill. The Town's Learn to Swim program strives to open the door to a lifetime of opportunities in water through progressive instruction in a group or private setting. Our year-round program specializes in teaching all ages and ability levels, from toddlers to adults, following a continuous curriculum developed to ensure swimmers learn the skills and endurance to be safe and confident in the water.

With a maximum depth of 4 feet 6 inches, and temperature around 87 degrees, the Miller Activity Complex (MAC) Pool is an ideal location for swimmers to learn to be
comfortable in the water.

Enrollment Announcement

  1. Registration for Learn to Swim Session #2 will open online at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Feb 22. This includes all youth swim lessons, adult private lessons and Pre-Master’s adult swim class and competitive swim techniques.

    Due to our upcoming RockREC software transition, registration will close at noon Saturday, Feb. 29, and late registration will not be an option.

    Session #2 starts March 1 and goes through May 2.
    • No classes the week of March 15-21 due to Spring Break.
    • No private lessons on Sunday April 12 due to Easter. 

Swim lesson details

Each Learn to Swim session runs 8-weeks in length to build upon the skills learned from previous sessions. 

  • Group lessons are offered Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays. 
  • Weekday participants meet twice a week - either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Saturday group-lesson participants meet once a week. 
  • Private lessons are available once a week and are 30 minutes in length.
  • Preschool classes, best suited for children ages 3 through 5, are 30 minutes in length. 
  • Youth 1, 2, and 3 classes, best suited for children ages 6 through 12, are 30 minutes in length.
  • Youth 4, 5 and 6 classes, best suited for children ages 6 through 12, are 40 minutes in length.

Are you an experienced swimmer? We also offer competitive swim teams, competitive diving, SCUBA classes, and American Red Cross Lifeguarding and safety classes.

Level Ages Primary Objectives
1 6-24 months Parents help introduce children to water using circle-time songs, while learning basic body positioning and holding techniques to promote water comfort. 

One adult per child is required to be in the water. Swim diapers or plastic pants are required.    
2 2-4 years Designed for toddlers who have advanced beyond Parent-Tot: 1, but are not ready to be in the water without a parent. Skills are similar to Parent-Tot: 1 and include parent and instructors both practicing skills with toddlers to help them adjust to swimming without a parent. 

One adult per child is required to be in the water. Swim diapers or plastic pants are required for children not potty-trained.


Online registration is available

Priority registration is available for those who are currently enrolled in the Learn to Swim program. General registration is open to new comers.

Please do not double-register your child in order to get the class you desire. A 10% cancellation fee will be assessed on cancellations that are requested at least three days before the start of class. After that, refunds will not be available. Lessons can also not be prorated.
