2018 Election Districts
Following the voter approved change to our Town Charter and transition plan; the Election Commission evaluated new district boundaries to reduce the previous seven election districts to six election districts. The new 2018 Election District Map was approved by the Election Commission on June 11, 2018 and presented to citizens at the June 19, 2018 Town Council meeting.
Election district boundaries were last evaluated by the Election Commission in April of 2015. Per the Town Charter, election districts will be evaluated again in 2021 and every six years after that to achieve equal apportionment of electors within each district due to continued growth.
Redistricting RequirementsAs required by Town Charter, election districts should reflect approximately the same number of registered voters within each district, and the maximum deviation between the most populous and the least populous district must be, at the time of evaluation, no more than 15 percent variance.
Interim Council Representative
Past practice has been for Councilmembers to continue representing the constituents that elected them until the new Councilmembers and Mayor are sworn in after the election. Citizens may continue to contact their representative using the 2015 Election District Map or any member of Town Council with any concerns.
Town Council Election in November
The 2018 Election District Map allows candidates to determine which district they are in if they wish to run for one of the open seats on Town Council at the Nov. 6, 2018 election. Councilmember seats for the new Districts 3 and 5, as well as the at large Mayor will be chosen at the November election.
Councilmember representatives are nominated and elected by voters within their district. The Mayor will be elected by voters from all six districts and will represent the interests of the entire Town. Please refer to Running for Council for additional information.
