Get bike safety tips at CRPD’s Bikes and Badges event

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the final school bell has rung. For many kids, riding bikes through the neighborhood is a summer tradition. Help make sure your child is prepared for the season at Castle Rock Police’s Bikes and Badges event.

Get to know our Castle Rock officers – plus, participate in helmet fittings and bike course games. Participants will also learn safety tips, rules of the road and will be able to register their bike with the police department. Registration will help police identify a bike if it is ever lost or stolen.

The bike safety course is intended for bikers under 12, but all ages are welcome at the event. Join officers from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 24, at Festival Park (Second and Perry streets).

The Bikes and Badges event is part of Castle Rock Police’s Coffee with a Cop event series. Each month, police sit down, or ride a bike, in a relaxed atmosphere for an informal conversation with residents.

Residents and business owners can chat with officers on any topic, ask questions, share concerns or tell officers about activities in their neighborhood. It’s a great opportunity to get a conversation brewing with those who have sworn to serve and protect our community.

See the full schedule for 2016 events at CRgov.com/pdcoffee.

The national Coffee with a Cop effort started in 2011. Now, more than 2,000 communities in 49 states participate. The intent is to maintain a trusting relationship between officers and the community.

In Castle Rock, Coffee with a Cop is a part of the Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving philosophy. This philosophy balances a reactive response to calls for service with proactive problem solving and partnerships.
