It’s construction season in Castle Rock, and while those cones can signal inconvenience, they are also a sign your Town is taking care of your roads.
Every summer, the Town performs road maintenance in neighborhoods and on main roads. For the past several weeks, we’ve been working on Fifth Street. We’ve repaired sidewalks, curbs, and gutters; and patched the asphalt. Now, we’re almost done.
The final phase is the surface treatment, known as slurry seal, and there’s some traffic info you’ll need to know as we complete the work.
The slurry seal will be applied to Fifth Street, between Sunset Drive and the Fifth Street Bridge over Interstate 25, the night of July 18. For safety reasons, this work will require a full closure and detour between 9 p.m. July 18 and 6 a.m. July 19. The work is expected to take one night, depending on weather.
The detour for westbound traffic on Fifth will be Woodlands Boulevard to Front Street. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to South Street, just south of Town Hall. Traffic heading north on Gilbert Street can use Second or Third streets to get to Perry or Wilcox streets.
The rest of Fifth Street – from Sunset Drive east to Founders Parkway – will be complete during the day. That work is expected to wrap up by 5 p.m. July 15. Some lane closures will be necessary, but access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times.
