Meet those behind the badges at annual National Night Out

Castle Rock Police value their community, and they look forward to getting together with you again during their annual National Night Out event, scheduled this year for Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the White Pavilion near Fourth and Perry streets. It will include a K-9 demonstration, a chance to learn about the various police divisions like SWAT and investigations, tours of police and fire vehicles, free hotdogs and hamburgers, and much more.

“It is important we get to know our community and our residents have an opportunity to come and meet us,” said Police Chief Jack Cauley. “We truly enjoy this event, and we look forward to hosting it every year.”

The National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to crime-prevention programs like neighborhood watch, started National Night Out in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime-prevention activities. The event is hosted annually on the first Tuesday in August.

While the event began with its traditional “lights on” campaign, it has turned into a celebration that includes block parties, cookouts, parades, rallies, exhibits, safety demonstrations and more. Each year, more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities across the U.S., Canada and U.S. military bases participated. Castle Rock is proud to be a part of this tradition.
