Castle Rock is steeped in history, and our roots are what make this community so special. Discover some of Castle Rock’s forgotten places and historical sites with the Town’s new Scavenge the Rock event. Part scavenger hunt, part costume contest, and part Town exploration – hunt for the meaningful locations, off-the-wall items, public art, unique amenities and little-known facts that help shape Castle Rock. Scavenge the Rock will test participants’ ability to solve clues and crunch mind-bending riddles. Gather your neighbors, friends and family to form a team and join this miniature version of “The Amazing Race.” Earn points solving clues from the clue sheet. The three teams at the end with the most points will win a prize. While day-of registration will be available, teams are encouraged to preregister online. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept 17 at Festival Park. Clue sheets will be distributed starting at 10 a.m. The sheets will be available at the information booth until 11:30 a.m. for late-comers. Teams will self-guide through the clue sheet. The more clues you solve, the more points you can earn. And, clues do not need to be solved in order. Figure out as many as you can, as quickly as you can, to earn the most points. How do the points work? Solving a clue and take a selfie in front of the destination will earn you between 10 and 50 points. Find hidden treasures (identified on your clue sheet) placed at several Downtown locations to earn an additional 50 points. Hidden treasures should be presented to the judges at the finish line. All photos should be posted on Instagram. Participants can tag the Town’s page (CRGOV) and hashtag #ExploreCastleRock. Team spirit will help you earn even more points. Dress for success, get in the festive spirit, and wear a costume to earn an additional 20 points. There will be a “best costume” contest, with a prize awarded to the winners. All ages and ability levels can participate. Teams should be made up of at least two people, but the more the merrier. There’s no limit on how many people can participate on each team. However, each team must have a responsible party that’s 18 or older. Also, please keep in mind you must have a smartphone to participate, and every team member must be in every picture to qualify. At least one team member should also have access to an Instagram account. The finish line will close at exactly 2 p.m. All teams should return to Festival Park before then. Judges will then go through the clue sheets to calculate points. The final teams will be asked to show their Instagram account and cell phone to the judges for confirmation. All participants will stand with the judge as they confirm the points earned. Following the scavenger hunt, join the after party at Festival Park. Enjoy music, food trucks and fun as we watch the contestants compete for the grand prize. Now, let the games begin! Here’s an example of a clue to help put your thinking-cap on: “Onyx, marble and bullet holes, oh my!
