As part of a detailed and ongoing investigation, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office has formally advised two Castle Rock teens of their charges.
Throughout this investigation, the District Attorney and Castle Rock Police have worked together. Until now, Castle Rock Police had been prohibited from releasing information related to the charges.
The District Attorney’s Office Thursday announced one 16-year-old is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and possession of a handgun by a juvenile. A second 16-year-old is charged with possession of an explosive or incendiary device and possession of a handgun by a juvenile. Both are being detained.
The two teens were arrested around 2:30 a.m. Monday in Downtown Castle Rock. The arrest of the second teen listed above led police to a home in Castle Rock’s Plum Creek neighborhood. Police were at the home to inform parents of the arrest when they discovered suspicious chemicals and launched a separate investigation. The chemical investigation is ongoing.
Working in cooperation with the District Attorney’s Office, community safety and the integrity of the investigations and legal process are of utmost importance to Castle Rock Police. These cases have been moved to the District Attorney’s Office, so all media questions should be directed there.
